Conde Marrón

Conde Marrón is a handbuilt alternative MIDI interface. It was built specifically to realize Earle Brown's November '52. The interface is a visual interpretation of the score which consists of a musical staff of 50 lines (as opposed to the standard five) with musical events placed throughout.
The Conde Marrón has a frame of Douglas Fir on which are stretched seven thin strings. The strings are anchored at one end with stainless steel hardware and connected at the other to individual ALPS silent lever-actuated switches. As the strings are pulled the switch closures are translated to MIDI notes by a Scenix SX28 microcontroller.
